HIPPY Families Graduate with Valuable Life Skills

Sixteen families have graduated from Barwon Child, Youth & Family’s 2015 HIPPY program, a two-year journey teaching valuable life skills in Geelong’s northern suburbs.

HIPPY (Home Internaction Program for Parents and Youngsters) celebrated with a graduation ceremony to farewell the successful participants last week. A total of 64 participants including carers completed the course.

“HIPPY offers learning opportunities to build skills, develops self-esteem and even offers participating adults the chance to work in the program, thus providing employment pathways and new opportunities,” said HIPPY Coordinator Rob Evans.

Graduates were presented with a certificate, T-shirts, completed work folios and a commemorative pot in recognition of their hard work and dedication.

They then enjoyed themselves with a host of activities such as face painting, nature clay creations, flower planting, fruit sculptures and rice paper roll making.

“The skills and approaches that families have learnt will continue to be of value as parents/carers and children continue their learning journey’s at school and beyond,” said Evans.
