Barwon Child, Youth & Family and the National Redress Scheme

Barwon Child, Youth & Family is pleased to announce that it has been declared a participating institution in the Commonwealth Government’s National Redress Scheme.

This means that past care leavers of BCYF’s founding organisations, Barwon Youth (BAYSA), Time for Youth, and Glastonbury Community Services who may have experienced sexual abuse while in our care will be able to apply for redress through the Scheme.

The National Redress Scheme was introduced in July 2018 by the Commonwealth Government, in response to recommendations from the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. The scheme will run for 10 years and will provide eligible applicants with access to counselling and psychological services, a monetary payment, and a direct personal response, such as an apology.

The National Redress Scheme was set up as an avenue for people who may have experienced sexual abuse to seek redress for harm and hurt, and to be provided with acknowledgement and support to assist them move forward in a way that is right for them. The National Redress Scheme offers an alternative to seeking compensation through the courts.

Applications can be made at any time between now and June 30, 2027.

Information, applications for Redress and support services can be accessed at www.nationalredress.gov.au or by calling the National Redress Scheme on 1800 737 377.
