BCYF staff member Aliesha Vicars takes out Trainee of the Year Award

Barwon Child, Youth & Family staff member Aliesha Vicars claimed the Trainee of the Year award at the recent Gordon Awards for Excellence held at The Pier on Geelong’s waterfront.

Aliesha was rewarded for her high standard of work, commitment and professional approach to both her studies and employer as well as her appetite to learn and take on additional tasks in the workplace.

“Integrating on and off-the-job training was useful for me as I was able to learn about business administration through the traineeship, and put it into practice straight away at work, gaining real life experience at the same time,” said Aliesha.

After completing her Certificate II in Business Administration through Northern Futures with The Gordon after being unemployed for a number of years, Aliesha went on to complete a Certificate III in Business Administration at Barwon Child, Youth & Family. Upon completion of this traineeship, Aliesha commenced a permanent full time position with the agency; just reward for her impressive standard of work and enthusiasm.

“My confidence has improved a lot, and I am constantly learning and improving areas of my life that I was previously not content with.”

Aliesha’s amazing story has paved the way for an ongoing agreement between Northern Futures and Barwon Child, Youth & Family which will hopefully see more trainees graduate in the future.
