Cheryl Flanagan Award Presented

The Annual Cheryl Flanagan Foster Care Award was presented on Friday at the Barwon Child, Youth and Family Malop Street office.

The award is made to honour the memory of former Glastonbury Community Services employee Cheryl Flanagan whose dedication and commitment to the Foster Care Program and children and young people in care was exemplary.

The award is presented to a child or young person who through the process of nomination from their Foster Carer, has demonstrated a need for a particular items that would help further their social or academic development.

This year the award is an iPad that will benefit a remarkable young boy who on a regular basis bravely tolerates medical treatment at the Royal Children’s Hospital. He will be able to use this iPad to help him pass the time during the many hours he spends in medical care. His teachers can also load the iPad with work and exercises to occupy and stimulate his mind during these visits.

The award forms part of a tremendous legacy left by Cheryl who had a great passion and unique skill for recruiting quality foster carers.

The annual prize up to the value of $500 is generously donated by Powercor Australia.
