Barwon Child Youth & Family (BCYF) provides the search and release of client information records for people wishing to access their files about the service received from BCYF or its founding organisations.

Legal Requests, Police Requests, Court Orders and Subpoenas

All Legal Requests from a Third Party, Police Requests, Subpoenas or orders from the court for client information should be addressed to the BCYF Privacy Officer in writing and as a minimum contain;

  • All relevant legal documentation and detail the purpose of the request
  • The name of the client
  • Information required, for example specific forms or client case file
  • If a BCYF worker is required as a witness, a witness summons must be provided

If the subpoena requires a BCYF worker as a witness, they can also be notified directly in writing.

Heritage

We also offer supported release of records to former care leavers, accessing information about their stay in orphanages and or children’s homes. This collection of records dates back to 1854.

Please view the Access Heritage Information Guide for more information, complete the Application for Release of Personal Information Form and return it to Barwon Child, Youth & Family with the required documentation via email, post or in person.
