Region’s premier alcohol and drug service facility to be established

Barwon Child, Youth & Family (BCYF) and the Stepping Up Consortium are partnering to establish the regions premier alcohol and drug services facility on the back of a successful joint funding application announced at BCYF headquarters.

Minister Martin Foley MP made the announcement that $500,000 will be provided to support a capital works project to upgrade an existing BCYF facility in Gordon Avenue, Geelong West.

“This will help community-based services to meet contemporary standards, and improve treatment for the people they serve,” said Minister Foley. “This funding will help create a healthier, fairer and more inclusive society.”

The grant combined with co-contributions from BCYF and Stepping Up will allow them to alter the existing physical space to create disability access, and establish a mix of work areas, including; utilities for counselling, day programming, group work, family work, clinical work and the ICE Day program.

“Today’s funding announcement, combined with significant in-kind contributions from Barwon Child, Youth & Family and Stepping-Up, will create one of our region’s largest community based Alcohol and Drug service delivery platforms and hub,” said BCYF Chairman John Frame. “A facility such as this will greatly improve the integration of service types for clients and allow us to deliver a more seamless service system for them.”
