Barwon Child, Youth & Family to operate headspace Geelong

Barwon Child, Youth & Family are pleased to announce that following a rigorous evaluation process, we have been selected to operate headspace Geelong.

Jason Trethowan, Western Victoria PHN’s chief said Barwon Child, Youth & Family have a long history in providing high quality and accessible services for young people and families who need support most, consistent with the services offered by headspace.

“Barwon Child, Youth & Family are committed to ensuring that headspace services transition smoothly across to the new lead agency and clients remain unaffected by the changes.”

Sandy Morrison, Barwon Child, Youth & Family’s chief said they are looking forward to continuing the provision of such a critical primary youth health service in the region.

“Providing services that maximise access and outcomes for our clients is central to everything we do and headspace Geelong will be a great fit with our family of youth and family centred services.”

headspace National CEO Chris Tanti has welcomed the announcement.

“headspace National looks forward to working with the new lead agencies and Western Victoria PHN to deliver high quality mental health services to young people in these areas.”

Mr Trethowan said that after being the lead agency for headspace Geelong since its inception in 2008, he was proud of everything staff had achieved in meeting the health needs of local youth.

“Recent changes to our organisation have altered our focus from delivering services to commissioning them. Our commissioning role will ensure we continuously improve services to meet the health needs of our community, developing local solutions to improve the health system for patients.”

“headspace Geelong run free and confidential health services for young people aged 12-25.Young people can access headspace services for their general health and mental well-being through headspace centres located at Geelong and Corio 5222 6690, Drysdale 5253 0400 and Ballarat 5304 4777.”
